Welcome to the Friends of Chellaston Brickworks

Local Nature Reserve

The “Friends” are a small group of volunteers who carry out regular work parties to help maintain and enhance this lovely area. Some of the tasks already undertaken have resulted in an increase in the variety of butterflies, amphibians and wild flowers present on the reserve.

Our main aims are to:-
• Maintain and enhance the reserve.
• Protect this vital green space for our local community.
• Provide the correct habitat to encourage a wider range of species.
• Raise awareness of the site
• Provide the opportunity to ‘get involved’.

We are always eager to meet new “Friends” and everyone is welcome to come along regardless of age, ability or knowledge.

Latest News
In May, Derby holds its first ever Walking Festival and the first of these walks is being led by our Group. We hope that you will be able to join us on Saturday 18th May at 10am when we will hold a leisurely walk around the reserve.

The title of the walk is Hidden History, and we will look for clues to the past lives of the reserve, they are there if you know where to look. Although it may be a little early in the month to see the Orchids which grow in many areas of the reserve, we will look at some of the tasks which are undertaken to maintain and improve this lovely green space.

The Mayor of Derby, Councillor Mike Carr will be attending this inaugural event which will commence from the Car Park on Bensley Close. We would love to welcome you to this event, which is open to all, but please bear in mind that this is a Nature Reserve and has steep inclines and steps which can be muddy and slippery in wet weather. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing. Dogs on leads are welcome.
